Q: What do case managers do?
A: The
official definition of case management services from CMSA (Case Management Society of America)
is: Case
management involves the timely coordination of quality healthcare
services to meet an individual's specific healthcare needs in a
cost-effective manner to promote positive outcomes.
In
simple terms a case manager forms an alliance with the injured
person and your medical team, insurance team and legal team so that
your recovery process is coordinated. They empower you and your
family with information you need to make wise decisions regarding
your care. See the case management ethics we follow.
Q:
Why do I need case management services?
A:
Having a case manager is like having a family member in the medical
profession. We are someone you can ask questions without hesitation.
We can give you the "inside scoop" about your options. Have you ever
wished for a person to speak up for your needs? Or wanted someone to
interpret the insurance claim or the diagnosis you were just given. Well
that is part of our role. We go with you to every doctor's appointment
related to your auto injuries. We
communicate your status and needs to the insurance company. We speak
up for you if there is an issue that is overlooked. We make sure
that your doctor writes the orders necessary to continue the care
you need. We give you options for your therapy and allow you to
choose what is best for your needs. Perhaps your home is not
accessible or easy to navigate since your accident. We arrange for an
assessment from a professional. They may make suggestions that will
make your everyday life easier. We will help you as little or as much as you require.
We are
familiar with all the benefits that are available to auto accident
victims and will inform you of these benefits.
Q:
How can I set up an interview or ask more questions?
A:
Contact us by clicking on the referral form and we will get back to
you within at 24 - 48 hours. Or call 248-443-8900.
Q: I
have a lawyer - how will the relationship be affected?
A: We
often work with clients that have a lawyer. Working with us can
support you legal case. We write a report monthly to submit to the insurance company, detailing your progress. We can send a duplicate to your lawyer so they are well informed of the medical side of your case. With your permission we can communicate with your lawyer. Q: My auto accident occurred a while ago - can I still utilize your
services? A: That
depends on your injuries and your insurance claim. To provide care to you, you need to have an open and paying auto injury case. Contact us and we can discuss your particular needs further.
Q: I
have a good relationship with my providers. Will working with a case
manager complicate my medical case? A: Our
goal is to coordinate with your providers so that you are receiving
the best care available. Most doctors and therapists are very accepting of case managers - especially when they realize that we are there as your advocate. We assist them in your treatment plan to create the best outcomes possible. Q:
What happens if I decide I don't need case management services
anymore? A: We stop our services. Remember you decide what is best.
Q: Will hiring you cost me anything?
A: No -
we will bill the insurance company for our time spent working with you. Q: Do you have experience with head injuries? A: Yes, most of our clients have some degree of head injury. We spend a lot of our education gaining information regarding the latest and most
up to date treatment for head injuries. Q: What if I prefer to obtain treatment through "alternative or
complementary" treatments?
A: We
support your choices. We are aware of available treatments including
so-called "alternative or complementary" choices. If this is the route you would like to take we have many resources available.
Q: What if I don't get along with the case manager from CareForward? A: CareForward will work with you and if necessary assign another case manger who fits your preferences. Q: I
already have a case manger that the insurance company sent to me. How can I switch? A: Meet with us. If you decide to work with us - simply write a letter to the insurance company stating your choice.
